What is the Best Probiotic for Gut Health?

Identifying a single best probiotic for gut health is challenging, since different probiotic strains possess varying capabilities in treating specific conditions. Probiotic mixtures are often recommended because they can provide a broader spectrum of beneficial health effects, thus being more effective in addressing various conditions than any single strain.

One extensively researched and proven probiotic mixture supplement for overall gut health is VSL#3, which contains several strains including Bifidobacterium longum, B. infantis, B. breve; Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. casei, L. delbrueckii ssp. Bulgaricus, L. plantarum, and Streptococcus salivarius ssp. thermophilus¹.

Research has demonstrated that VSL#3 is one of the best probiotics for effectively reducing symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), including bloating, abdominal pain, flatulence, as well as diarrhea (both antibiotic and non-antibiotic induced)¹.
